Cushing Terrell Welcomes Murray Miller to Lead the Firm’s Historic Preservation Team

Cushing Terrell brings on a wealth of historic preservation experience with the strategic hire of Murray Miller who will lead a team focused on revitalizing historic buildings.

Multidisciplinary design firm, Cushing Terrell, welcomes Murray Miller, Assoc. AIA, MRAIC, MCIP, RPP, CAHP, IHBC, MRTPI, RPP, INTBAU, NOMA to its team as a Historic Preservation Manager responsible for overseeing historic preservation projects and working across disciplines to deliver specialized services that will help new and existing clients maximize opportunities on historic sites while safeguarding their significance.

Miller has four decades of experience in historic preservation and traditional architecture. His extensive technical contributions to the field include environmental impact assessments, design reviews, and developing/administering preservation tools. His specialized training in regulatory reviews includes the interpretation and practical application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Skilled at client and public engagement, and with a deep understanding of codes and regulations across locations, he has supported clients in North America, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

Miller’s work for Cushing Terrell will comprise:

  • Working with clients to identify development scenarios that seek to reduce the adverse impacts of climate change.
  • Leveraging the potential of historic preservation to contribute to the economic development of towns and cities.
  • Assisting Certified Local Governments in the management of change by updating preservation ordinances, historic district design guidelines, and administering design review processes.
  • Working with federal agencies in meeting Section 106 obligations while streamlining deliverables to achieve the best historic preservation practice.
  • Assisting property owners in the analysis and development of concepts that consider ways to increase density and provide opportunities for affordable housing while sustaining the significance of historic properties.
