Together, Cushing Terrell and Target have been bringing customer needs to the forefront of the in-store experience for more than 10 years, tackling the challenges of design innovation and optimization for the benefit of each and every Target guest.

Cushing Terrell has partnered with Target for the past ten years. Our work began in refrigeration services, completing over 150 market expansion projects in 2010. Target named Cushing Terrell the “Firm of the Year” in 2011. During that time, our refrigeration team helped Target expand into new markets. Our design teams kicked off a five-project-per-week cadence with up to 15-20 in design at any given time until 2013.

Design services expanded into full engineering in 2014 and 2015 with Target’s new store expansion program. This work led to 20+ test store projects (market impact) and transitioned into the beginnings of a robust remodel program with 15 store remodels. Cushing Terrell provided a mix of refrigeration, MEPR, and complete architectural/engineering services. Our contribution has since grown into large-scale remodels for five program years, as well as new stores of tilt-up construction, specialty lighting, and stamped concrete floors. Our work includes small tenant improvement program rollouts and one-off projects to address store operations concerns and warehouse retrofits.

Our remodel and tenant improvement services have assisted with many store innovations, including bringing fresh offerings to Target’s market areas, a complete re-work of market and service departments. In addition, we addressed necessary improvements to cooler/freezers, liquor stores, pharmacy, optical, beverage and snack bars, and café concepts. Other tenant improvements were Starbucks development and rebranding, extensive power and lighting of sales product, new fire alarm and intrusion detection systems, upgrade of employee offices and break rooms, restroom décor, and ADA upgrades. We are currently assisting with the rollout of a new partner business installation across 28 stores.

Construction cost varies but can be anywhere from $50,000- $4.5 million per project.
