“Strata of Denver” Workplace

This 76,000 sq. ft. second-generation office tenant improvement spans three floors of a historic Denver, CO building. The Cushing Terrell design team was brought in to create an office environment that not only resonates with the client’s workplace culture and identity in Denver, but also harmonizes with the design concept previously established in other client-occupied floors within the building.

The goal was a functional and innovative workplace that fosters collaboration and creativity. The layered sedimentary rock forms of Colorado informed the design with each floor referencing a different layer, or ‘strata’, of Denver–from a moody underground concept on the lowest floor to a celebration of sunshine on the top floor. Different architectural forms, patterns and colors, along with environmental graphic design (EGD) and murals completed by local artists, express these concepts on each floor:

Level 2 – Beneath the Surface: The underground world of Art Deco-era Denver speakeasies.
Level 3 – River Basin: Organic patterns and cool hues reference Colorado river beds.
Level 4 – Designed by others.
Level 5 – Designed by others.
Level 8 – Celestial Bazaar: Celebrating the endless days of sunshine in Denver.

Cushing Terrell provided architectural and interior design services including space planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, permitting, furniture selection and layout, and construction administration.
