St. Vincent Healthcare / SCL Health Central Heating and Cooling Plant
Cushing Terrell provided design services and construction administration for a new state-of-the-art central heating and cooling plant for St. Vincent Healthcare / SCL Health. The project included three fire tube steam boilers with boiler stack heat recovery, flash steam economizer, blow down separator, new surge tank and deaerator, and new system controls.
The cooling system featured new centrifugal water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, remote indoor condenser water sump, flat plate heat exchanger, chemical feed system, and pumps with variable frequency drives. Additional design was completed on a master control room and an electrical room that provides the hospital’s primary and backup power, and houses all the variable frequency drives serving the central utility plant.
