Park County School District

To meet growing capacity needs, Cushing Terrell worked collaboratively with Powell community members, Park County School District, and staff to provide comprehensive facility assessments, site selection studies, and ongoing community engagement efforts in developing plans for a larger middle school and two brand new elementary schools.

POWELL MIDDLE SCHOOL
The master plan for the new 96,025 sq. ft. Powell Middle School included replacement of all but the original gymnasium and locker rooms of the existing school. Phase I created a core for the new school and included a new central kitchen, dining/assembly, FACS classrooms, and flexible career technology studios. Phase II resulted in three small learning communities with unique identities for each grade level. The collaborative communication media center established the heart of the transformed school.

WESTSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Westside Elementary is a new, 360-student school on an existing 6.5-acre site. The bright and colorful design placed the media center at the heart of the school, which serves as a central hub for the learning environment. The K-5 school provides clear wayfinding and separation of lower and upper grades. Technology-rich environments enhance teachers’ ability to implement forward-thinking teaching strategies.

SOUTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Southside Elementary is a new K-5 school located on a 9.5-acre site. Educational excellence and energy efficiency were design mandates for this 49,500 sq. ft. institution. Ground-source heat pumps provide cost-effective heating and cooling. Best practice security measures are included throughout the school. Fun colors and technology enhance the learning environments in the classrooms and throughout the building. And the school was designed with flexible spaces for small group work as well as project-based learning.
