On the Boards: Waterfront Residence

This project promises to be a harmonious blend of nature and architecture via a site offering breathtaking views of Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, accessed from across serene Whitefish Lake.

The design thoughtfully places a charming guest home right at the water’s edge, offering an intimate connection to the lake. This guest home features a unique rooftop seating area that’s perfect for enjoying lake views and tranquil surroundings. The primary residence is nestled into the hillside, giving the home a sense of seclusion and privacy while maintaining a strong visual connection to the natural beauty of the area. 

Cushing Terrell provided architectural and structural services for this stunning guest home and boat house. The vision behind the boat house was mainly utility and storage of boats and other water motor vehicles, while maintaining the facade and sleekness of the main domicile.

For the guest house, the team worked to create a matching structure that was presented with striking views of the lake. The central gathering spaces are focused toward the lake, while two bedrooms are situated in the back of the home. The team crafted modern forms with large, transformable openings that offer views of the lake from every space, with a focus on regular indoor/outdoor usage of each area as well.

Finally, the walkout rooftop highlights the grandness of the lake and gives even more seating and entertaining area without obstructing views from any of the other rooms in the house.
