On the Boards: Urban + Farm Development
For this agrarian-themed, “Urban Farm” concept for Outlaw Real Estate Partners, landscape architecture serves to meld open space and park land, trails, farm fields, community gardens, and neighborhood gathering areas.
The vision for this 100-plus acre project in Bozeman, Montana, is to create a community centered around small-scale food production, encompassing a variety of landscape experiences for residents and visitors. Green space will be interwoven throughout residential units, retail, restaurant, and office spaces providing linkages and pedestrian connections throughout. As currently planned, a greenhouse and farmland will grow enough produce to provide CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) memberships for all residents, as well as supply a café and restaurant. Park and open space will re-create various local eco-climates of the Gallatin Valley with a focus on drought tolerant, native, sustainable landscaping and wildlife habitat, while human-scale, pedestrian-friendly streetscapes will promote physical and social health and activity.
