On the Boards: Texas Hill Country Winery & Tasting Room
This design concept for a winery and tasting room is envisioned to be located in the heart of Texas Hill Country. The single-story structure and outdoor areas are designed to be nestled into a picturesque hillside with expansive views all around.
The winery’s architecture is inspired by the natural beauty of the area combined with traditional vernacular design, featuring a mix of materials that blend seamlessly with the landscape. The exterior of the building is clad in reclaimed wood and dark corrugated metal panels, giving it a unassuming rustic yet modern feel, which serves as a backdrop for the vineyard and complimentary landscaping. Large windows offer an abundance of natural light and allow visitors to take in the stunning views from wherever they are in the space.
As guests enter the winery, they can choose to go left toward the restaurant or right into the spacious and welcoming wine tasting area. The space features high ceilings with exposed timber and steel trusses, stained concrete floors with a chevron pattern of subtly different shades, a neutral color palette, and green accents that create a relaxing atmosphere. In addition to a small merchandise display, the walls are adorned with paintings by local artists, adding a touch of Texas charm to the space.
The room is anchored by a large, L-shaped tasting bar in the corner with an emerald stone marble top, where staff guide visitors through the selection of wines via a draft wine system. The system ensures all patrons receive a taste of the wine as envisioned by the on-site winemaker while maximizing interaction with staff.
In addition to the restaurant and tasting bar, the winery is designed to offer a range of indoor and outdoor experiential spaces for visitors to enjoy with private event areas for weddings and corporate retreats. Outside, the winery design features a spacious uncovered patio that is perfect for sipping a glass of wine under the sun. Alternatively, a covered patio adjacent to the building offers the perfect spot on hotter days for relaxing with friends. The patio consists of a variety of comfortable seating options and fire pits for chilly evenings. Visitors can also take a stroll through the vineyard and explore the lush gardens that surround the winery.
