Mayfair Meadows Park Master Plan

Starting with a community dream for a bike park, Cushing Terrell was hired to facilitate the Mayfair Meadows Park Master Plan, a conceptual framework for transforming vacant park space in the heart of a dense housing community into green space with recreational amenities for residents. The master plan is the result of the design team delving into bike park research, a collaboration with park staff, and, above all, a synthesis of public feedback related to the site design concepts. The mountain bike community in Belgrade also provided detailed guidance and tremendous support for the project. Transparency was at the core of the process with the master plan document structured to illustrate the concurrent public engagement and site design.

Originally named Prescott Park when it was platted in 1994, adjacent streets Meadow Circle and Mayfair Drive inspired the renamed Mayfair Meadows Park. The park space has remained undeveloped for 20 years, and is surrounded almost entirely by single-family homes. Due to the high density of housing compared to existing parks, this is a prime park development opportunity.

The Belgrade Regional Parks, Trails, and Recreation (RPTR) District was formed in 2023 to support the area’s recreational use by generating funds to improve and maintain its parks and trails. Mayfair Meadows Park became the first park master plan under the RPTR District, which encompasses the City of Belgrade, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, four trailheads to the Bridger Mountains, the Gallatin and East Gallatin Rivers, and a large portion of land in Gallatin County.

The features of Cushing Terrell’s conceptual plan include a bike park (with both jump lines and a pump track), a walking loop, open green space, a playground, restrooms, an improved parking lot, and a pavilion on the 4.5-acre park area. To remain within financial feasibility, the project will be phased, with phase one focusing on activity and safety, and phase two focusing on the open green space and playground.

It was incredible to see the level of dedication community members and city staff put toward communicating about the project and engaging in dialogue during the master planning process. Their extraordinary efforts ensured a highly supported project that will bring a fantastic amenity to this area of Belgrade.
