Horn Rapids Solar, Storage & Training Project

The Horn Rapids Solar, Storage & Training Project is one of the first utility-scale solar and storage projects in Washington state. It will provide the state the opportunity to integrate another clean energy source into its existing generation profile of hydro, nuclear, and wind. The City of Richland will purchase the energy generated by this site to help them continue to provide clean energy to their customers.

Cushing Terrell’s scope for this project included:

  • Photovoltaic (PV) Production Calculations
  • PV Racking Design
  • PV String Design
  • Electrical Distribution Design (DC, 480 V AC, 12.47 KV AC)

The site will also provide opportunities for utility workers to train on the battery energy storage system (BESS) and PV systems. This training plan will cover plant construction, maintenance, operations, and safety.

System Information

  • Annual generation: 5,853 MWh
  • 3.25 MW (ac) PV array
  • 1 MW/4 MWh BESS
