Intermountain Health Holy Rosary Hospital Cancer Center

Holy Rosary Cancer Center is a 13,000 sq. ft. addition to the Holy Rosary Healthcare campus in Miles City, Montana. The design incorporates a new drive and entrance canopy to the Cancer Center, bringing modern elements while still relating in design to the existing architecture. The program includes a new linear accelerator for radiation treatment and an expanded infusion treatment area, including private and open treatment bays. Also included are several exam rooms for patient treatment.  

The facility wanted the cancer center to blend in with the existing scale and materiality of the clinic and hospital, while still having its own entrance and prominence on the site. The design team kept the connection to the existing building light, with a simple hallway connection for patients and staff to utilize for efficient, weather protected coverage to the other patient areas, lab, and cafeteria.  

This site has several challenges with poor soil conditions and ground water mitigation. To help these existing conditions, the design team kept the new finished floor 8″ above the existing floor level and increased underground waterproofing measures to help with water intrusion into the building façade. 

Interior murals bring the beauty of Eastern Montana into the infusion and linear accelerator area to promote a calm, healing environment. This artwork compliments the owner’s standard word wall with new a vinyl graphic wallcovering displaying inspiring words.
