Benefis Health Gift of Life Housing

Benefis Gift of Life Housing in Great Falls provides nonprofit, temporary housing for patients and their families seeking medical treatment. Cushing Terrell collaborated with Benefis on this interior renovation, driven by the goal of creating a more inviting and comfortable environment. Through minimal demolition and an expedited timeline, disruptions and downtime of the facility were minimized. 

The Gift of Life House was designed to create a homelike environment that transforms what might otherwise be a cold or impersonal space. Through the careful selection of furniture, fixtures, and equipment and finish materials, Cushing Terrell crafted a space that is not only easy to maintain but also poised to serve the community for many years to come. 

Cushing Terrell strategically selected new lighting fixtures to avoid the need for fire sprinkler rework in many of the apartments, and the team maintained all existing HVAC systems. This approach aided with scheduling and reduced the number of trades required for the renovation.

The design team emphasized style, durability, and seamless integration with other buildings on the Benefis campus. By being sensitive to budget constraints and program needs, the team ensured that the project aligned with Benefis’ mission to offer these accommodations free of charge.
