Bozeman Health Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit

Cushing Terrell partnered with Bozeman Health to design a new adult inpatient behavioral health unit within the inpatient wing at Deaconess Regional Medical Center. The unit expands the campus with six double-occupancy and two single-occupancy patient rooms and features a range of support spaces, including two activity and dining areas, a group therapy room, a consultation room, and a staff break area.

Patient and staff safety were at the forefront of the design process, while at the same time, creating a comfortable environment with a non-institutional feel was a top priority for the client. This balance between safety, comfort, and staff functionality presented the greatest design challenge for the team. To address this, Cushing Terrell collaborated closely with a behavioral health consultant, ensuring the unit supports healing while maintaining rigorous safety standards.

A signature design element of the unit is the inclusion of wall murals in each patient room. Every room features a unique mural, giving each space its own identity and celebrating the seasonal beauty of the Bozeman area. This thoughtful approach helps foster a sense of comfort and individuality for patients, supporting their well-being throughout their stay.
