Billings Clinic Broadwater Expansion

Billings Clinic Broadwater is a full-service medical center that offers care, emergency, and ambulance services. The innovative addition and renovation to the existing 1980s healthcare facility establishes a “Mountain Modern” design philosophy that celebrates this Montana town. The design team focused on creating a welcoming front door to the building while maintaining confidence that this is a cutting-edge hospital. To give the building warmth, the design team utilized stacked stone and a wood-look metal panel. To give the building an architectural shape edge, the team incorporated large expanses of glass and a matte finish to the exposed metal panel. The canted stone walls give the architecture anchor points that provide a foundation to the generous glazing at the second floor.

The expansion and remodel was a much-needed update to the existing healthcare facility. The project was a true “fast-track” build, consisting of multiple bid packs and deliverables meant to meet the timeline of the COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act. Parceled into an addition and a tenant improvement, the project proved to be an exciting yet challenging effort for the design team.
