Cushing Terrell Establishes Sustainability Service Sector
The new service sector formalizes the firm’s commitment to sustainability — both in its project work and its operations — by dedicating specific resources to this critical area of design and business practice.
Multidisciplinary design firm, Cushing Terrell, is pleased to announce the establishment of a service sector focused on sustainability. While the firm has had a team dedicated to sustainable design since 2005, the service sector framework enables a more rapid and comprehensive response to client needs, as well as greater cohesion and focus on sustainability across the firm’s 30-plus disciplines, seven market sectors, and 13 offices.
The leadership team for the service sector includes Alan Bronec, who serves as principal in charge of the service sector, and co-directors Ashleigh Powell and Tim Johnson.

“Companies are not only doubling down on sustainability, but also taking sweeping decarbonization measures and committing to environmental, social, governance (ESG) standards,” said Powell. “When embarking on new building projects, renovations, or adaptive reuse projects, we help clients navigate the many design considerations involved so they can meet their sustainability, decarbonization, and ESG goals.”
“We believe in holistic, healthy environments that maximize systems and synergies and minimize environmental impacts,” said Cushing Terrell President Greg Matthews. “Through our knowledge-driven, collaborative design process, we aim for a thorough understanding of each client’s culture, values, and goals so that in turn, we can craft a customized approach, no matter where they are on their sustainability or decarbonization journey.”
As a signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment, Cushing Terrell is part of the industry-wide movement pushing for all new buildings and major renovations to be carbon neutral by 2030. Additionally, as part of the SME Climate Commitment, Cushing Terrell is a member of a group of 4,200 small- and medium-sized enterprises who have committed to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half before 2030, achieve net-zero emissions before 2050, and disclose progress on a yearly basis.
