Message from Cushing Terrell President and CEO Greg Matthews

“Cushing Terrell and Eclipse Engineering have been working on projects together for two decades. Through this partnership, our firms have found a beneficial alignment in how we work, our approach to client relationships and projects, and our overall values and company cultures. With the leadership of both companies expressing a desire for strategic growth and a deepened engineering portfolio, this merger is the perfect fit.”

Two Teams That Match Up Well

Cushing Terrell and Eclipse Engineering have both been seeking opportunities for growth and evolution. Our firms have been partnering on projects and referring each another to clients for more than 20 years. Thus, combining forces felt like a natural path forward given our common growth goals and alignment in how we work. These synergies include an understanding of the benefits the acquisition will provide to our employees and to our clients.

Our firms work in many of the same markets but with Eclipse Engineering providing additional depth of experience in the industrial sector while Cushing Terrell brings healthcare, infrastructure, and retail sector opportunities to the engineers joining us from Eclipse. Cushing Terrell will gain office locations in Portland and Bend, Oregon; Spokane, Washington; and Whitefish, Montana. Eclipse Engineering also has offices in Denver, Colorado, and Missoula, Montana, alongside Cushing Terrell offices in these locations.

Answers to Your Questions

Both Cushing Terrell and Eclipse Engineering have been seeking opportunities for growth and evolution. Our firms have been working together for 20 years, thus combining forces felt like a natural option to consider knowing our common growth goals. Over the years, we’ve found many commonalities in how we work, our approach to design and client service, and our culture and values. The synergies include how we want to grow and an understanding of the benefits the acquisition will provide to our employees and our clients and their projects.

No locations will be closed. Cushing Terrell will gain office locations in the following cities: Portland, Oregon; Bend, Oregon; Spokane, Washington; and Whitefish, Montana. And the Eclipse Engineering offices in Denver, Colorado, and Missoula, Montana, will remain open in addition to the existing Cushing Terrell offices in those locations. Eventually, we will co-locate our teams in Missoula and Denver.

For the time being, Eclipse Engineering will operate as “Eclipse Engineering, a Cushing Terrell Company.” Eventually the Eclipse Engineering brand as it exists today will sunset, and we’ll be unified under the Cushing Terrell banner. This will likely happen before the end of the calendar year.

Not in the near term. Eclipse Engineering team members will still have the same telephone numbers and office locations. They will continue to utilize and be reachable via their Eclipse Engineering email addresses. After about a 90-day period (this could be longer), Eclipse team members will transition to the Cushing Terrell email system. However, if clients and partners utilize the Eclipse email addresses after that time, those messages will migrate and still be received by the intended recipient.

No. There will be continuity in quality of service and personnel. Your project leads and contacts will remain the same for current projects. In the future, when new projects are initiated, there may be some changes to the structural team makeup for each project, depending upon the client needs.

Cushing Terrell’s multidisciplinary teams are organized into “service sectors” such as architecture, civil engineering, interior design, mechanical engineering, and structural engineering. Eclipse technical team members will merge with Cushing Terrell’s structural engineering group while Eclipse team members focused on operations (such as IT, marketing, finance, and marketing) will merge with Cushing Terrell’s operational teams.
