Randy Rhoads, Executive Director of Affordable Housing

Cushing Terrell welcomes Randy Rhoads as Executive Director of Affordable Housing. Rhoads brings more than 30 years of experience in the design of residential, commercial/retail, education, and government projects to his position with the firm.

His previous work comprises leading the design of 6,000+ mixed-income, multi-family, and senior living apartment units in 14 cities across the United States. Rhoads also served as the lead architect for over 30 Low Income Housing Tax Credit-financed developments, including the first multi-family, mixed-income building in the U.S. to incorporate Universal Design features in every unit, one of the first affordable housing developments to be certified under the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria, and one of the first mixed-income rental developments to achieve LEED for Homes certification and LEED for Neighborhood Development certification.

“We’re thrilled to have Randy join our team,” commented Cushing Terrell President and CEO Greg Matthews. “His in-depth experience as a design and planning lead for multi-family housing, combined with his passion for realizing healthy, inspiring communities will be a catalyst for our residential team’s work in this sector.”

“This is an incredible time to be contributing to this industry,” said Rhoads. “We know there’s great need as well as great opportunity to change the face of affordable housing. I look forward to continuing the work to build game-changing relationships with communities, developers, and residents to create neighborhoods that have an authentic sense of place, are contextual and connected with their surrounding environments, and are designed to be sustainable, equitable, and resilient. We’ll be asking the question, ‘What type of society do you want to create?’ and helping bring this to life.”

Prior to joining Cushing Terrell, Rhoads worked for one of the nation’s top 50 for-profit affordable housing developers and has held lead design and project management positions at a number of San Diego and St. Louis architecture and development firms. He is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism, holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University, and is a Registered Architect in the State of California.
