Blackfeet Dormitory
Cushing Terrell worked closely with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and provided full architectural and engineering design services for this 52,000 sq. ft. K-12, 200-bed dormitory. The dorm includes 24 4-bed suites and two large suites with 50 beds each.
LEED Silver certification was required and achieved, and energy conservation measures were a priority. Features included energy-efficient light fixtures, daylighting strategies, and windows and roofs designed with better than standard thermal properties. The predicted energy savings over ASHRAE 90.1-2007 is 49%.
The project provided a 38-foot folding partition wall in the main activity room and all spaces were designed to provide a high level of acoustical separations and controls. The dining room and kitchen was designed to accommodate breakfast and dinner for the students five days a week. All students are bussed to and from school (off-site) each day. Protection of waiting students, as well as building protection, was included. This project was completed using the design/build process.
