A Home For All
Increasingly the way we live and interact with each other is evolving within our urban environments. Mixed-use developments bring vibrancy and expressiveness to the neighborhoods in which they reside. Through the seamless blending of retail, art, residence, and community engagement these spaces provide a reason to gather and share experiences.
Effective mixed-use design orchestrates sociability, walkability, and convenience.

It Starts With Community
Our team understands that successful outcomes for your multi-family project must be envisioned — from start to finish — as a self-contained ecosystem. Technologies, resident demographics, mobility/transit, amenity spaces, home workplace, and ease of access to grocery, retail, and entertainment are but a few of the considerations that shape your project’s performance.
I have worked with Cushing Terrell (formerly CTA Architects Engineers) on the development of 90 multi-family condominium units located in McCall and Boise, Idaho, over the past 14 years. Their team has been excellent design partners and I would give them a strong recommendation for anyone considering development of multi-family real estate.

Our Process

Research
Research addresses current needs and future-proofing. We dig into health and safety, location, and all your project’s unique considerations.

Iterate
Collaboration peaks when we jointly share and listen, and revise the designs for your multi-family project until everything looks just right.

Implement
We live for that sense of relief, accomplishment, and pride — when it all comes together, you step inside, and your vision becomes reality!

Evaluate
The work doesn’t end when the doors open for residents; we evaluate your space and user experience as they evolve with time and use.
Bringing you the best in:

Sustainable Design
We’re constantly innovating sustainable systems and seeking improved materials that reduce environmental impact and lifetime business costs for mixed-use and multi-family spaces of all sizes, shapes, and types. Some of our proudest accomplishments: LEED v4 Platinum for Stockman Bank’s tower in downtown Missoula, MT; a net-positive visitor education center at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge outside Las Vegas; and LEED v4.1 Platinum and Operations and Maintenence for our own office in downtown Boise, ID.
As signatories of the AIA 2030 challenge, our team takes its responsibility to design for the future of our planet extremely seriously.
Market Rate Housing
Through innovative and efficient design, your goal of improving the lives of all who live, work, and play within a multi-family community is realized. From real estate development to design and delivery, we listen closely and interact actively with you in order to generate proven outcomes. This approach keeps Cushing Terrell on the forefront of multi-family design.

Affordable Housing
Access to homeownership creates healthy communities. Beautiful and accessible housing is fundamental to supporting diversity and equity, and we know that thoughtful design solutions have the power to make high-quality, sustainable, wellness-focused living spaces available to all members of a community.
Student Living
We make it a priority to ensure student living facilities — dorms, apartments, and more — blend seamlessly with existing campus architecture and flow. Communal or “commons” spaces have become a modern student lifestyle element we’ve fully embraced.

Senior Living
During a difficult transition period, these facilities must channel home. A perfect blend of clean yet comfortable–design that leads with warmth and security–is paramount.
