Multidisciplinary design firm, Cushing Terrell, is proud to announce the promotion of Jim Armer to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Jim replaces Martin Byrnes, who has served as the firm’s COO for the past 14 years and who has been with Cushing Terrell for nearly 30 years.

Jim Armer joined Cushing Terrell in 2005 as a mechanical and refrigeration engineer and over the course of two decades, he has gained roles of increasing responsibility. These roles have included co-creating and leading the firm’s Energy Services group in 2013, being named principal in 2018, being elected to the board of directors and executive committee in 2019, and most recently, taking on the role of Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO) in 2020. As CKO, Jim served in a new executive position created to oversee the retention and distribution of intellectual capital and to facilitate professional growth and learning opportunities for all team members.

“Jim has shown an incredible propensity for leadership throughout his career at Cushing Terrell,” Byrnes said. “He’s always attuned to areas that could use improvement and is a proactive problem-solver, dedicated to operational efficiency, business growth, and the smart adoption of technology so we can continue to evolve as a firm and better serve our clients. I feel extremely confident in the firm’s continued success with Jim taking over as COO.”

“I’m pleased to have Jim at my side as we continue to partner in the leadership of Cushing Terrell,” President Greg Matthews said. “Jim brings a keen understanding of what it takes to manage a thriving company and is known for creating a balance between progressive initiatives and holding true to our firm values. He will be instrumental in keeping us fiscally responsible while ensuring we invest in our people and the future.”

“I also want to express my deep gratitude to Marty Byrnes for all he has contributed to Cushing Terrell over the years,” Matthews added. “Marty has been a key figure in my own growth at the firm, offering incredible council as I took on the role of President in 2020. I feel very fortunate to have experienced Marty’s talent, dedication, and guidance through the years.”

The transition of Jim Armer to COO is effective as of March 1, and Marty Byrnes will continue in his principal-level leadership role at Cushing Terrell through 2025.
